Wildfire: Feel the Heat (NR)

synopsis

Every year, millions of acres go up in flames, equivalent to half the state of California. Wildfire: Feel the Heat shows the brave men and women who stand between fire and us, and the technology they use to fight fires. Wildfire goes behind-the-scenes with an elite crew of men and women as they undergo rigorous training - climbing, lifting weights, jogging, jumping from elevated platforms and careening down wires to practice landings. A plane's engines whip up stiff winds, just like actual wildfires, as firefighters practice opening their life-saving fire shelters. Fighting fire with fire is an effective countermeasure that helps deprive future wildfires of fuel. Drip torches and flame-throwers are shown as they ignite "managed" fires. Flames shoot out, some hurtling straight at the camera, engulfing it in flames.
