The Light Thief (Svet-Ake) (NR)

synopsis

Good natured electrician "Mr. Light" lives with his wife and four daughters in a remote Kyrgyz village and dreams of providing cheaper energy to the community. Out of the kindness of his heart, he tampers with the meters for pensioners unable to pay their bills and rescues small boys from big trees. But conflict appears on the horizon as a greedy urban politician Bezkat is determined to sell the villagers' land to the Chinese. Although the villagers are forewarned, they are unable to prevent him from installing his thuggish relative Mansur as Mayor and sidelining dissenting voices.
