Anaglyph Tom (NR)

synopsis

Filmmaker Ken Jacobs revisits the 1905 source of his 1969 structuralist film, "Tom, Tom, the Piper's Son"--a feature-length work produced by re-photographing a 16mm film print of a 1905 Edison short. There, the filmmaker zoomed into the image, exposing the inner workings, minor movements, background actors and bustling energy contained in the antiquated celluloid frames from the dawn of cinema. Here, forty year later, Jacobs revisits the original Edison footage with entirely new digital tools in hand and takes a disorienting 3-D take on a very old subject.
