Home Is a Hotel

synopsis

HOME IS A HOTEL presents a composite portrait of life on the margins in the most expensive city in the country. Filmed over 5 years, this feature-length documentary looks at inequality in San Francisco through the lens of five residents as they fight to stay housed. The film features a mosaic of strangers bound together by their reliance on this system of Single Room Occupancy hotels to keep a roof over their heads and homelessness at bay. While their stories are unique, their attempts to break free of cyclical traumas and crushing structural forces is a universal story whose outcome will foretell the future of the American city.
