Among Giants (1998) (R)

synopsis

An off-beat adventure set amongst England's working class, Pete Postlethwaite stars as Ray, a foreman whose rag-tag crew of handymen will take on any job, legal or not. When Ray is hired on the sly to paint miles of massive electrical pylons along the Yorkshire Moors, he faces a daunting task. Ray is no stranger to danger, during his off-hours he and his mate Steven climb the famous cliffs of Sheffield seeking adventure, but now his crew must race the clock, hoping to beat the hour when the deadly voltage in the towers will come back on line. That's why no one can quite believe it when Ray hires Gerry (Rachel Griffiths), an alluring but aloof Australian climber who shows up in town with nothing more than a backpack. It's practically unheard of to have a woman on a dangerous, illegal job. But there's something irresistible about Gerry, who has an electrifying effect on the painting crew, and a significant one on Ray. But as their fervent romance unfolds in this strange vertical world, everyone becomes a bit dizzy, endangering the project, their friendships, their lives and the only thing in Ray's world that truly scares him, his heart.
