synopsis

It's 1974. Gloria Bethune faces a bleak existence when she retreats to her small hometown after failing as a singer in New York. She clashes with her sister, and is sent packing to a rooming house, whose one other tenant is Roy Hutchens, a grifter who has run out of bridges to burn. Early in their acquaintance Gloria alludes to her singing aspirations, and despite her beauty and optimism, Roy recognizes the tragic flaw of a victim in her. He invents a story about himself being the former husband and manager of a famous country singer. Through this flawed man's apparent faith in her, Gloria's passion for singing is reborn, but she is pushed into uncharted territory.
