synopsis

A look at the Power Writers Program, a New York poetry class that offers inner-city high school students a chance to express themselves. In particular, we focus on the self-described "Tripod," a trio of friends and classmates from the Bronx who attempt to use their gift for language to escape from their seemingly predetermined futures. As the students struggle with the pressure of their daily lives, their words become increasingly revelatory.
