The rumors of Channing Tatum’s departure from Fox’s Gambit movie can officially die after this weekend. Tatum is in fact all in for the solo film helmed under the X-Men universe. Insiders persist that the rumors had some basis because negotiations have wavered for the last few months. However, Tatum has a vested interest in the character and future for the franchise for the last few years.

This may be why Tatum has agreed to not only star in the film and potential sequels, but also co-produce alongside X-Men franchise producer Lauren Shuler Donner. The film also has a preliminary draft for the script in the works and a committed director via Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes). The movie is slated to release next year after the final installment of the X-Men First Class series and just before the much-anticipated Deadpool movie.

So Tatum’s surprise appearance at the X-Men Comic-Con panel this past July was very intentional and just the sort of hype that Marvel fans crave.
